The Forbidden Union

They were together in the House

union-lightening

Just the two of them.

It was a cold, dark, stormy night. The storm had come quickly

union-lightening

and

each time the thunder boomed he watched her jump.

She looked across the room and admired his strong appearance...and

wished that he would take her in his arms, comfort her and protect her

from the storm.

She wanted that...more than

union-lightening

anything .

Suddenly, with a pop, the power went out... She screamed...

He raced to the sofa where she was cowering.

He didn't
hesitate to pull her into his arms.

He knew this was a forbidden union and

expected her to pull back.

He was surprised when she didn't resist but instead clung to him.

The storm raged on...as did their growing passion. And

union-lightening
there came a moment when each knew that they had to be together.

They knew it was wrong...

Their families would never understand... So consumed were

they in their passion that they heard no opening

of doors...just the faint click of a camera......

1 cartoon = 100's of human lives ???

Today I googled just for one thing. To see exactly what was in the controversy, which has taken (is taking) a lot of human lives!Got it? Yea!Its the Danish Cartoon Controversy. I didnt expect to see the original cartoon, which caused so much of unrest among all Islamic countries. But finally I saw it. My opinion before seeing the original cartoon changed very much after seeing it. Though I couldnt understand, the dialogues in it (as it was Danish), I could understand, "why did it hurt others" after seeing it.

The EU news papers say its their "freedom of speech". But do they have the responsibility to realize the "thin red line" that separates "freedom of speech" from "respecting others religious beliefs" ???

I am so shocked to see that this "freedom of speech" has taken so much of human lives , since September 30, 2005, till now! (even today, I saw fierce riots in its name!)

I wonder if that newspaper had published cartoons on Jesus Christ also, like this?

Today I came to know, that an Iranian newspaper had invited cartoons on "Jewish Holocaust"(which took lives of 6 millions Jews!), in return, for their hurt..as part of their revenge!

Is this the right way, to respond??? Mocking at sensitive issues, when we know, that it will hurt others? Media are supposed to be with people, respect their beliefs, and bring out truth!

Why we are unable to respect others religions?? Why? Why we are like this?

Note: I am not posting the cartoon, cos it sure does hurt others. But this link shows it.

Homesick ???

Hi guys, I am back after 5 days at my cousin’s home(where I grew up ,till I was 15). Now, there are lots of problems in between all grown-ups( pls don’t ask me if I am not a grown-up yetImage…when compared with 55yr olds, I still am a kidImage)…and I try to remain as “dumb” as possible, in such situations…sometimes lots of unwanted problems are suppressed with this “dumb” act of mine…Image

I found a lost aunt of mine, in my cousin’s house (our long lost neighbor cum relative!). She and her family is in UAE for past, may be 25 yrs! And when she saw me, she started asking abt Ireland and stuff…and I was just smiling and trying to prove my existence with some “hmm”’s and “yeahh”s…ImageI didn’t have to do much, cos she did all the questions and answers for me.Image I just had to wear that “dumb” smile and say “yea…” for all her question-statements…Image

Everything was ok, until she asked me one thing …”when you first came back from Ireland to Kerala, didn’t u feel how dirty, un-developed and filthy, our place is? Arrghhh!! I hated this place, when I came back!! ”---and I was like Image“ohhh…she has hit me, right on my head!!”…cos I have NEVER felt or even thot so… we were not alone, her husband and my uncle, aunt and cousin were also in our company. And I suddenly dropped my “hmmm”s and “yeahh”s..and told her very sharply..”NO, I never felt that…infact even at Ireland, I always wanted to feel the sand in my place”Image...(it was a very true feeling…nothing related with deep patriotism, but I sure missed touching the sand in Kerala! ).

And she cudnt take it…she asked me “NO…??? how come, u didn’t feel that???”. I told, “I don’t know, but I didn’t feel that. Aunty, I lived here for past 27 yrs, how can I forget that in just 1 yr???” and she said “Still, u didn’t feel, how FILTHY this place is ?? in UAE…”.And then began the UAE saga……Image

Actually she was trying to make me feel as though she and myself are similar, (NRI’s) and that we MUST be feeling so bad about our own country and state??? Image

I felt very bad, cos if she was born and brought up in UAE to NRI parents, I would have understood her thought. But she was born and brought up here in Kerala, in a very ordinary family for 29 yrs and then became an NRI!!! Will that change our attitude..I cant say cos, I am NOT an experienced NRI like herImage. I am so much new in Ireland, that I identify myself more with Kerala than Ireland.

I live in Ireland, cos it gives me bread, it gives me money…it gives me a better standard of living in India.  In simple words, its like missing my husband and my mom. With my husband (in Ireland) I miss my mom (in India) and with my mom, I miss my husband …I identify these ppl in my life, with their respective countries…Image

How will it be, if I was asked to choose one??? Image

How will it be, if I was asked to say that as I am married, I feel my mom is NOT fashionable??? OR NOT presentable???Image

Isn’t it ridiculous???? Image

Anyway she continued and stuck on to her theory of “un-civilized”, “filthy”, “un-cultured” keralites…(WOW! What a tribute!). GREAT!!Image For all those keralites(or Indians), who are going to be like my aunt…”hats off” for thinking like her!Image

In Malayalam we have a saying:

"Veedu maranaalum, moodu marakkaruthu!"---translating,

“Even if u forget ur home, Never forget ur roots”.

Wish I could have told this to her face…Image

But as usual, I didn’t tell her cos, she is nearly 55 yrs old, and I was FORCED to put on my “dumb” act and chew on my fingers till it hurt!! GOSH ! sometimes, its very difficult to be POLITE!!!Image

When you grow up alone!

Last time when I wrote something personal (being a single child ) one of my ex-classmates told me that I am crossing limits as a person. ImageShe was worried (??) that others may think of me being a “problem child”. ImageBut it never prevented me from writing what I am/was. Image

Now, today we had a function at home. My grand dad’s death anniversary. As we have a lot of cousins in my family, now there’s a whole new generation of my cousin’s kids, who are cousins among themselves. In the first generation, only I was the single kid. When I was 4 or 5, I had heard my dad’s mom saying to my dad, that he MUST have one more baby, in case I was deadImage (ohh..she thot abt my death, first?).

The funny thing was that she said this sentence in my presence.Image My dad didn’t even listen to it, cos he didn’t answer her. Now I went and told amma, this dialogue of my grandma. I asked her “Why is grandma worried abt my dad, when I am dead? Why isn’t she worried about me, as I will be the one going to die, anyway?”Image. I don’t remember what mom told me in return.

Now, in the second generation, there is only one kid, who is single. And her mom (my cousin) says, she wants her to raise her , like my parents did Image(my parents didn’t do any magic, either!). I asked her “Are you crazy? Are you not in this world? A single kid, will never develop socializing skills, if she is going to be alone (ok, I didn’t say it in her kid’s presence!). But they think I am lying…they think (both her mom and dad) that I have all the good things that I can have in my life (I don’t deny it, but there are certain things which are above physical goods).Image

What I lack is:

1[[1]Socializing never come to me automatically. I developed it thru hard work and conscious effort thru a lot of yrs…(actually after getting a job!).Image

2[[2]I used to have difficulty in facing relatives, when they came home. I hid myself behind doors, to escape them. My mom used to drag me out.Image

3[[3] I didn’t know, what “sharing” meant, until I went to hostels…Image

4[[4]I took me years to adapt myself with ppl of different natures (w/o hurting or getting hurt). I think even now, I have this problem.

5[[5]I usually expect things to go smoothly…when unexpected problems come, I freeze…I don’t know how to fight thru a problem and then to find a solution.Image

6[[6]I cant take harsh words or scolding from others as part of life. (which is changing, now)Image

7[[7]I am a late-bloomer, in all things!Image

…and the list goes on..

I found that this cousin’s kid is very shy and never even answer a single question, if we ask her anything (she is 9 yrs old). She just goes and hides behind her mom’s back. (which was exactly what I used to do!Image). she never plays with other kids, wont even talk to her own grandma. She is safe and sound in her own world (mostly indoors!). But her parents seem to be proud that she is behaving so (!). They say its her “independence”…oh…man its not independence... Its called “seclusion”!!!

My parents realized the “seclusion” that I made out of myself, only very recently.  My husband communicates with them more than I do. He spends hours talking to them (only then they realized, kids can have communication with parents LOL!Image). He asked me “Why is it so, that in ur home, ppl wont talk to each other?” I asked him “Why in ur home, ppl talk and interfere with each other too much?” LOL Image…that was the main difference…communication...

After 10 years in different hostels and 2 jobs, I taught myself to socialize “forcefully”. Now, even b4 meeting my husbands colleagues, I take a deep breath and go, as if I am going to attend a very important interview…LOLImage. No one notices my plight cos, I am so well in doing that “mock-interview”.Image

I hope that kid wont grow up into a weak, unsocializing, selfish, easily-hurt, oversensitive person. Cos I learned it thru hard way (thanks to all my hostel-mates!!!!). But will she get my chance??Image

NOTE: Pls don’t think that I am in the making of a book -“How to raise perfect kids?” LOL Image..We are having family functions for past 4-5 days and I watch all these kids, (almost 7 of them, of different ages) everyday, which made me write this! I try to play with them too, though they don’t believe, my age! LOLImage
