Today I was watching zoom television, and suddenly there was this song playing in it "kehna hai kya.." from Bombay. And guess what happened?
I was suddenly dragged down (or up?) my memory lane. It has so much importance in my teenage years cos , the actor Aravind Swamy, was my first ever heart-breaking, crush I ever had in my life (sigh!
Believe me, He was the only actor whom, I could love with all my heart, truly, madly, deeply!!! ). No one could capture my heart, so strongly, since his demise inside my heart! LOL. 
I was 15, when "Roja" (in which he starred!) was released in Tamil. And the moment I saw him (on posters!) my heart skipped (increased?) some 50-100 beats (LOL!). I lost my heart, to him. I went and told dad, "I love Aravind Swamy and I want to see all his films from now onwards". I declared him as my love forever, to my dad and mom. I proclaimed to be faithful to him, all my life! I think mom asked me to grow up. But dad was okay with it. 
I saw "Roja" in Tamil some 50+ times. How much I envied that heroine of my love(madhoobala)
. And there I was madly in love with him. I asked dad for a walkman (sony), "Roja's" audio cassettes (which all he bought, to satisfy the badly wounded, cupid struck heart of mine!). I spent my time, walking (floating in my mind), hearing the songs of Roja, 24 hrs a day, dreaming (thinking) about no one but, Aravind Swamy. I had just written my 10 th exams (thank God, Roja didnt release before my exams!). The whole 2 mths after my exam, my life revolved ONLY around Aravind Swamy. I think, I even told dad, that I will marry only him!
But astonishingly, dad, never made fun of me, or even tried to stop me. He took me to all of Swamy's films and sat with me (though all his next films flopped, in a stretch!
) Amma didnt come with me. I dont know when and how, I lost interest in him. The self-proclaimed, true, mad, deep, lover of him (me), just lost interest in her love, after some months. Oh! What a tragedy!.
Today when I saw him after so many years (on screen) , I tried to think what made me go mad behind this guy! And I found out that that the answer to my question is :
1) his smile (it is killing!)
2) my age (15, is very much appropriate to get cupid-struck)
U know, if I could get a refund for all the batteries I burned out, for hearing "Roja", 10 hrs a day for 3 mths, that would have been a decent amount, I suppose.
Note: This is the exact poster of "Roja" which struck me the cupid-arrow, first in my life! wasnt his smile, killing?shud i be blamed, oh no...i was such a naive, innocent thing, at 15

lol swathi i too remember i was in 10th at tht time immediately after the exams we went for the movie but this time it wasnt roja it was bombay.my god i dont eve remember how many times i watched the movie.but it was not for arvind swamy.it was for manisha.lol.tht 'uyire ' song is my ever favourite song.

Oh swathi....I also remember how crazy I was bout Arvind Swamy...even I had his posters in my room...and the movie Roja,I love that one,even I've seen it more than say 10 or 15..that *Thamizha Thamizha* was really touching,when I used to even cry for him LoL:)..Arvind Swamy was jus awesome in that 'Bru ad'..remember??..

A.R.Rahman, a great talent was identified by that movie. Still the songs are very touching to listen.
Direction, Music, Lyrics, Camera, Singers, Actors all got so many awards for the movie....
Roja, Bombay, Thiruda Thiruda, Puthiya Muham, May Maatham, Gentleman, Karuthamma, Rangeela are great mile stones of Rahman...
Such a touching rythm is missing in Rahman's recent music...
It was lovely expression of some of your earlier days. But i couldn't understand whether he smiles in that photo ..well nothing much to say if its of the Monalisa smile type :)

ReplyDeletefirst cupid stuck me whn i was studying @ 5th, and teh girls name was Roshni. i dint tell her abt my cush, and it lasted some months. then, my next cush was @ 6th, - Sangeetha. i was "Seriously" in love with her (and all my senior chechis supported me - my 5th,6th and7th was in a girls high school), but by the end of year,after the two months vecation i lost my intrest. then i made a wow of never to fall in love again, and i stood by it till 3 yrs back... :)

My friend had made a whole scrapbook of cutout pictures and articles of him for my birthday, which I used to hide under my bed, so my dad and mom wouldn't see! ;) Then I moved on to Michael Jackson (eeeeks!!!!). My first Indian movie crush was on Aamir Khan, after QSQT. I was 18 then (giving away my age here!)...and spent waaaay too long daydreaming about him, when I should have been concentrating on college!!! Guess because I grew up in the US, I couldn't get used to the mustachioed macho look favored by all the South Indian actors. But I remember when Arvind Swamy became a big heartthrob :).
