Simplicity !

I have heard different people describing others in different adjectives. Some are called “intelligent”, some “beautiful”, some “hard working”, some “sensitive”, some “egoistic” and what not. I have never heard people describing others like “simple”. And even I have never described anyone as “simple” too. But ironically, the word most people have used to describe me is “simple”. I have really lost count of how many times different people had told me the phrase: “you are so simple”. Now, can I take it as a compliment?? May be I can.

The first time I heard it was when I was in college. I was barely eighteen, and one of my classmates told me “swathi, u r so simple…and even u make things look so simple”. It went on. Years later my colleagues told me the same thing. Sometimes I feel a little bit unhappy that why are not they seeing that I am also “honest” and “hard working” or to some extent “beautiful” and “intelligent”. And to my utter despair, those are the two adjectives people have never used for me. As I am so desperate for that, I even ask my hubby approx 20 times a day “Aren’t I beautiful? Aren’t I intelligent?”. He got so used to that question that within a millisecond he says “Of course you are the most beautiful and the most intelligent!!” I know it’s a white lie, but I am happy to hear that lie.Image

Nowadays even if I open my mouth to ask him anything else he ends up answering the same readymade answer!!Image

I have always thought why I look so simple to others? I don’t know. Is it cos others are sooo complicated? Hmm.. not sure.Image I have never found any one whom I can describe as simple. May be its because my “simple” criteria don’t match with others’.

After I started blogging, I get mails saying “Swathi, u r so simple, ur blogs are so simple”. Again the same thing…”simplicity”. Classmates, colleagues and co-bloggers… may be I am really “simple” . But then what does simple means?

  1. Yes gal, you are generally a simple person, whom anyone can feel comfortable with. I say simple, because you are person who can view any complex situations in simple way and find simple and easy solutions for it. I feel its obviously a better compliment that being described as “honest”, “hardworking”, “beautiful”, “intelligent” etc. Being "simple" is a healthy concoction of all the above characteristics. *smiles*

  4. Dont worry, amica..simple means 'straight from the heart without any guile or false pretense' and that by far, is the best compliment I would love to get. But I, unfortunately, have only managed to get 'goofy', 'crackpot', 'waste' and once even 'theetti pandaram' ;-)

So saramillado.. not everyone can be simple. It takes a lot to still be what you are when everyone around you is trying to go one up on you. So **thumbs up** way to go, you!

BTW, I think you're pretty intelligent and I love your hairstyle! :-)

  8. In America to call someone "simple" would be an insult (as in simple-minded = mentally impaired), BUT I am 100% sure that is NOT what they are implying to you... was just stating a comparison... I think when your friends call you simple it's mainly stating how you don't let the complexities of life get to you... I think that's a good thing. :-)

  11. Girl, to be called simple, is to be called 101 nice things most people are not, beautiful people are not simple, intelligent people are not simple. And who said you are not beautiful..you are simbly beautiful ;)

  12. Simple just means...the stream of feeling that erupts in your heart comes straight to your face, without being interrupted by the waves from your head and not influenced by the muscles of your face. When writing, it would be straight to the paper...now do u get what is simple?

  13. All I will sy, being simple ,ain't that simple. If people find you simple it probably means you have no hangups, get along well, not too demanding, blah blah blah. I wish I could be called that... And please simplicity is beautiful... which you are beautiful. Girl I have seen your wedding pic and there you are drop dead gorgeous!

  14. Swathi, maybe the fact that you dont put on airs makes others say that you are simple? You know how high 'n mighty some people act!
By the way, beauty comes from within....and it is in the eye of the beholder...When you love someone they are more beautiful to you than any world acclaimed beauty queen!!....and YOU ARE intelligent. Is there any doubt about that?? I don't think so!
    ..about the narration, its SUPER!!!

  17. As Shail Aunty said, "beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder"

Sis... shall I make it public over here?? Come on... you know what I am talking about... ahem ahem...Do you want me to tell the fellow bloggers that your looks remind me of someone?

Then agan, I am refraining from doing so because I dont want to entertain stupid comments from sicko's around.

But I still think that you resemble 'BB' in many ways....

  19. Simplicity is a great virtue. only a simple person can think high.only in a simple heart there is contentment. So take it as the best compliment you have received. The rest all may be flatteries!

  20. hey girl, being simple is not all that simple. Its the greatest virtue. As sab said, may be you are not that party party kind of person. Well, thats not necessary after all and you are beautiful. Being simple is beautiful and you are cos' of that. Way to go! ;-)

  21. I would concur with Janu, Vinod, Sab, Jo and Sneha the theetipandaram.
As usual, Varkey's definition of simple is anything but.

I was in an international school the last year before I left SL. They had this contest for all these things - smartest, prettiest, handsomest, if you were on a deserted island, who would you like to be with etc. You get the picture.

So I got the #1 vote for friendliest personality - whatever that meant.

I am by no means simple. I wish I was. The grass is always greener on the other side.

btw, you have a very smart and well trained husband.

    Hey Arfana, who's BB?

sab---LOL! wedding pic grogeousness credit goes to my beautician, whose pancake was sooo sticky that when i scrubbed my face, my in-laws didnt recognise me. my hubby, fortunately, did!!!

shail---yea, one thing is true..i dont act!except not to hurt others!! me and intelligent.... *hugs* now, u r next to my hubby!!! LOL! and thanks!

sneha---theeetippandaram was really funny!!! r u scaring shail out of her wits?

arfana babes---better keep quiet...i dont want him to comment again!! yeeeeeeeeeeek!!

    piyush---yea...yea...leg-puller!!!

    Vinod---thanks!!that was a good one!

    janu---thanks dearie! muaah!

Brenny ---yea, my hubby is the smartest of all [yea, i do return his favors!!! LOL!]
